Meaning
Formal approval by a customer that a supplier production process is capable of consistently producing parts that meet all requirements. Ppap acceptance is the final gate in the production part approval process, a standard in the automotive and manufacturing industries. It signifies that the tools, materials and assembly lines are ready for high volume production.
This rigorous review covers eighteen different elements including design records, material test results and the initial process study.
Sample Validation
Suppliers must submit a specific number of parts taken from a full scale production run for inspection by the buyer. These components are measured against the technical drawings to ensure that every dimension is within the allowed tolerance.
Process Capability
Engineering data must show that the manufacturing line is stable and that the variation between parts is low enough to prevent defects. A high capability index gives the customer confidence that the supplier will not deliver faulty goods once the orders increase.
Volume Release
Granting acceptance allows the supplier to start shipping parts in the quantities needed for the buyer factory. This milestone is often linked to the release of final payments for the tooling used to make the parts, as it proves the equipment works as intended.
